Rev. Cathy Sweeney

Rev. Cathy Sweeney is currently appointed as Associate Pastor of Discipleship at Arapaho UMC in Richardson, Texas. She has a passion for leading discussions about God’s work in the world and encouraging individuals to find their place in God’s work. Cathy’s first career was in commercial real estate, where she came face to face with the complexities of affordable housing. She left real estate for full time ministry, having been ordained as a Deacon in the North Texas Conference. In addition to work in the local church, Cathy has served as Assistant Exec Director of a nonprofit providing housing and related programs for women-led families experiencing poverty. She also facilitates “Knowing Our Neighbors,” a discussion group to help volunteers of nonprofits understand the circumstances and challenges of those living in poverty. Cathy is actively involved in social justice issues in the DFW area, lending her voice to advocate for the marginalized and oppressed.

Cathy lives in Richardson, Texas, with Steve, her husband for 30 years. They have two older children. Cathy graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in accounting, and earned a Masters of Theological Studies from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
